About us

One of the main goals of the National Air Index Foundation is to create a reliable system for informing the public about air quality. Our actions have impact across the whole society.

We promote the idea of shared responsibility for the world around us, for nature, for the air we breathe. In our projects we want to involve those who are not indifferent to the quality of our lives and access to reliable information on threats we face. Our activities focus on promoting places where people breathe healthy air.

Our air quality monitoring system not only does inform but also alerts and notifies the public about pollution levels. Breathing polluted air adversely affects the human immune system. During periods of increased flu prevalence, and especially now with omnipresence of Covid-19 virus, this information is crucial. People who are aware of the risks may restrict their movement around the city when it is not necessary.

Our projects

Mobile station

which, based on meteorological data and the ability to take measurements anywhere, determines the area emitting pollution.

Station equipment:
- gas meter with sample conditioning at a constant
temperature of 25oC (CO, NO, NO2, SO2, O3, VOC)
- laser dust meter with heated track (particulate matter PM10, PM2.5, PM1)
- measuring sensor of atmospheric pressure,
- temperature measuring sensor,
- humidity measuring sensor,
- noise level measuring sensor

Remote sensing

Thanks to remote sensing of gas clouds, we identify all compounds from the chimneys, we detect all leaks and fumes in industrial plants, incineration plants, boiler rooms, heating plants, etc. We perform qualitative and quantitative analysis at a distance of up to 10km. Additionally, we analyze the air pollution during mass events. In case of threats, our operator will immediately identify poisonous compounds, eg. combat gases as well as area of contamination, and report promptly to emergency services. We use the VOC, TIC and CWA spectral libraries. Please note that the use of remote sensing devices does not violate private space in any way and does not pose a threat to other people, property or airspace users.

Ammonia Detected from 1.5km Distance

Using the SIGIS 2, this video shows the detection and identification of ammonia being discharged from a stack at a distance of approximately 1.5km. Note the orange square directly above the stack which is the user defined Field of Regard (FOR). The area within the FOR is rapidly scanned with spectral information being captured at each point by the FTIR spectrometer and immediately analyzed for suspect chemical content.


Air quality measurements from Ecobollards are placed on the map of the National Air Index. Ecobollards are used to measure dust and compounds and signal air quality by means of changing colours.

The Ecobollard is equipped with LED lighting, which, based on the results of current measurements of the concentration of suspended dust, as well as other impurities, takes on a colour consistent with the Polish Air Quality Index.

Greenhouse gas measurement spectrometer

Our spectrometers are equipped with FTIR Remote Sensing analyzers designed for atmospheric measurements. They quantify gases in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide and methane, by analyzing solar radiation with the CAMTracker system. It is an innovative camera-based feedback system following the sun as a light source.

Our spectrometers are ideal for long-term measurement cycles in remote areas with little infrastructure, there are portable and easy to set up, they perform precise greenhouse gas analysis and are insensitive to distortions e.g. from clouds
